Epson TW 5300

Sold OUT SeE..

New BenQ Projectors (BenQ W1110BenQ W2000) on the block are giving Epson a run for their money! BenQ also won PJ of the year with their W1090 which competes directly with the TW5300. They are both very good projectors for the money, it may come down to brand preference.

The Epson mid range home cinema projector EH-TW5300 has some minor changes from Epson's previous model, mostly printed on the box :) the performance is enough to ensure the 5300 entry level projector is Epson's value buy.

Consider also the new BenQ "Sexy Shape" projector models offering twice the "Real" contrast ratio of previous BenQ models especially for longer use periods.

The new line includes the BenQ W1110 (often bundled with 3D glasses) and the "Projector of the Year" BenQ W2000.

Epson's big claim to 5300 fame is you can watch a movie per day for the next 11 years* on the same lamp if you use the lamp's Eco mode.  A lot depends on how you use the projector. Don't turn it on then off unnecessarily and use a surge protector.

Eco mode is not giving you the full 2200 ANSI needed for bright rooms. You'd only be happy at night or low light conditions using the lower Eco power setting.  Still it's very cheap viewing per lamp.

If you're after brightness which is the most important feature in a well lit lounge room etc. then Epson make a far better projector for less, the Epson EB U32 is HD+ (1920 x 1200) and it boasts a healthy 3200 ANSI lumens.

2200 ANSI lumens on the TW5300 is more ANSI lumens you'll ever need of a night so only consider say the U32 if you know you'll be using the projector during the day. This projector also has a built in speaker that sounds better that you'd think, that's a sign along with the MHL connection (so you can connect your smart phone etc.) that you can move the EH-TW5300 from home to holidays, room to room or a mates place without needing to take the whole Hi-Fi system.

We wouldn't bet the house on the lamp life claims, much depends on how you treat the lamp also if you get the odd power surge thinks go south quickly. (So use a surge protector)

Lamps for the EH-TW5300 are inexpensive in any case and to extend their life you'll find it much quieter watching in Lamp Eco mode as the fan speed is decreased thus the noise.

We like 3-LCD because it produces bright, colourful and high contrast Full HD images without the single chip DLP rainbows or headaches. The contrast ratio of 35,000:1 is more than enough if you have ANY light in the room.

Sharp, smooth images for the best looking films and TV

Using Epson's 3LCD technology for exacting brightness and colour, this Full HD projector features high White and Colour Light Output of 2,200 lumens and 35,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. Together this technology ensures bright, vivid colours and deep blacks. Frame interpolation and Detail Enhancement provide sharper and smoother motion pictures and great detail, for greater clarity, and the EH-TW5300 can also convert standard 2D video into 3D.

Enjoy the big-screen experience with easy set-up

Aimed at people who want a truly big-screen experience at home to watch films, TV and sports, this projector delivers stunning Full HD entertainment at up to 332 inches. Positioning your projector to get a perfectly-aligned image is easy thanks to keystone correction.

Built-in speaker

Though it's primarily designed to be used with a separate sound system, an integrated 5W speaker on the EH- TW 5300 makes initial set-up of the projector simple.

The EH-TW5300 projector uses high temperature poly-silicon (HTPS) LCD panel technology incorporating an inorganic alignment layer. This long lasting technology offers vastly improved contrast, superb alignment and enhanced reproduction of dark colours (capable of reproducing jet black).

What's the difference between say an Epson EB-U32 and a EH-TW5300

A fair bit if you're watching movies in a bright room, you'll notice much more detail from the EB U32 because if you don't have the brightness you wont't get a viewable image. We can't fault the Epson EH TW5300 projector or the Epson EB U32 for the price each has it's benefits depending on your needs. The difference in picture quality would be about the same again (going up in quality) if you ventured into an Epson EH TW-8200 meaning you're very fussy!

Just watching HD TV doubt most people can tell one good projector from another with some light in the room. In a world where you get what you pay for the Epson EH-TW5300 and the EB U32 both offer a nice entry in to home theatre / multi purpose projection that a few years ago would have cost $10,000.00. Now showing off with a 100+ inch projection screen has become really affordable.
